I graduated from the University of Pretoria in 2021. I completed my community service year in 2022 at Tambo Memorial Hospital in Boksburg. I enjoyed the paeds rotation the most. I found my love for the little ones and realized the big impact I can have on them. Its such a pleasure to see their smiles and receive positive feedback from the parents. My knowledge is increasing every day and I am blessed to be part of such an amazing team where we prioritize every child and treat them as an individual and where we put their needs first. It’s very satisfying to see how the children I treat grow and develop. It motivates me to take courses, learn more and keep up with the latest developments. In my free time, I enjoy exercising. I love spending time with family and friends. I am hard working and will always give my best. I have positive attitude in life and believe everything happens for a reason.

• Occupational Therapist • BSc Occupational Therapy (Wits - 2019) • Currently completing Ayres Sensory Integration Training through (SAISI - present)
I completed my community service year at Lydenburg Hospital, a small town in Mpumalanga, where my passion for paediatric OT started. The benefit of working in a rural hospital is the opportunity to engage in numerous outreach programmes, specifically early intervention initiatives in the town and surrounding areas. My goal has always been to help people and be able to make a positive difference in their lives. By working as an occupational therapist, I have the opportunity to help others work through their difficulties and assist in making a stressful period more manageable and somewhat enjoyable by providing support to both the child and their family. I have been fortunate to work with several experienced paediatric practitioners and receive invaluable experience and mentorship working within a variety of contexts, which includes mainstream, remedial and special need schools. This has provided me with the opportunity to work with a diverse group of children (including ADHD, Autism, SPD, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and developmental delays). My goal is to continuously grow as a therapist so that I can provide the best therapy possible for my clients while working in the profession that I am passionate about and love.

I am blessed to be part of Giving Children Wings Therapy Centre for the past 7 years and I have learnt so much. As a mother - this being my first passion - I understand how hard it is for the whole family when a child is not a typical learner. At GCW I help make a difference in the lives of children who might just not be understood or need another approach to learning or reading. Children are our future, and I am grateful to be part of shaping our tomorrow.

I have my diploma in Foundation Phase, and I am working on my B.Ed degree in Foundation Phase. My passion for children developed at a very young age. I am not a person who likes to sit still and I like to keep busy. Being able to help children, especially those with special needs, is something very close to my heart. My ultimate goal is to assist children in reaching their true potential. Their unique development is something I am passionate about. As an educator I pride myself on ensuring they receive, undivided attention, stimulating activities, love, understanding and encouragement which is paramount to their growth.

I matriculated in 1994 at Hoërskool Kempton Park and went to study B.Comm Personnel Management at Pukke (Northwest University). I met my husband whilst I was studying. After several years we decided to go overseas to embark on a 2 year working holiday. We got married on our return to SA and a year later my beautiful son, Ruan was born, which became one of the biggest reasons to pursue my God given talent, passion and love to become a remedial educator. I'm a value adding individual and wants to MAKE A DIFFERENCE...and what a privilege and honor it is to make this difference in a CHILD's LIFE. I left the corporate industry after 10 years and became part of the dynamic, energetic Giving Children Wings team from April 2017 as a Reading Facilitator. I am continuously improving myself through various Learning programmes and -courses , so that I can provide the children with best quality of education wrapped up in compassion, love and CARE - exactly what every child deserves. It is my mission to assist, help, guide and educate every child so that he / she can overcome their obstacles and be the BEST version themselves.

I am a mother and a grandmother, my children are my world. I like to go places with my friends and experience new things that can open up the my mind. I want every child to have the opportunity to be the best they can be, and I believe reading will help them to discover in another world, it can also open opportunities for them to learn, grow and understand the world better, one day.

More on Engela #diekindertannie

Hi there, I am, Engela van der Heever – Greyling an Occupational Therapist, also known as #diekindertannie with a B.Occ.Ther (UP) 2009 & I specialize in Sensory Integration and qualified in Ayres Sensory Integration in 2017.

I have over 10 years of experience with children in both the public and private sectors in South Africa and within Africa. I have been running my own practice in South Africa since 2010 which allows me to live my passion and a special interest in Early Intervention, Sensory Processing, and children with learning difficulties.

I have worked with a number of highly experienced therapists, especially with regards to Speech, Hearing, Physio, Educational & Play Therapist as well as NICU nurses. Which has led me to partner in independent programs such as Future Wings Academy and preemie parent and professional training programs as well as my own little project called Giving Children Wings

I am enthusiastic about developing my skills as an occupational therapist and therefore conduct continual research and extensive reading to ensure I present the best in my practice.

Through Future Wings Academy, I aim to play a role in touching children’s lives who otherwise may not have been given the opportunity to reach their full potential. Implementing a therapeutic program in a classroom environment with small classes is the key to optimal learning as with Giving Children WIngs, which is a franchised reading, concentration, and mathematical center in South Africa.

I believe that if I teach the students of today, the way we taught them yesterday, we simply rob them of tomorrow.
